Erik has worked and trained with thousands of nonprofit organizations from around the world. In his current position with the YMCA of USA, Erik works to maximize the philanthropic capacity of the YMCA movement. Prior to this position, Erik ran a nonprofit management consulting firm and has served in a variety of nonprofit roles over the course of his career.

Erik holds the lifetime credential of Advanced Certified Fundraising Executive (ACFRE) — one of only 100 worldwide, is an Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Master Trainer, Past-Chair of the ACFRE Certification Board, and former AFP International Board Member, in addition to serving on various other national and international nonprofit boards, committees and task forces.
Erik has written many books, manuals and articles on topics such as annual campaign, capital, endowment, grant getting, major gifts and more. His latest book (co-authored) is entitled Strategies and Tools to Raise Money and was published through John Wiley & Sons, Inc. in 2012. He has been referenced, published and quoted in resources including BoardSource, Advancing Philanthropy, The Chronicle of Philanthropy, the Foundation Center and many others.
Erik lives in Durham, North Carolina with his wife, Andrea.
